DAY 1, Monday, April 17, 2017 - Depart Charlotte, NC on our trans-Atlantic flight. M

DAY 2: Tuesday, April 18, 2017 - Arrive London Heathrow Airport, meet our driver and guide and board our private motorcoach.  We drive north to Stratford-upon-Avon and settle into our hotel.  This evening we enjoy a “welcome to England” dinner.  Dinner and overnight Startford-upon-Avon. D

DAY 3: Wednesday, April 19, 2017 - After our full English breakfast, we travel the short distance to Coventry for morning services and a visit of Coventry Cathedral.  The old cathedral, built over 1000 years ago, was bombed during World War II and the ruins were left as a testament to history.  The new cathedral was built next door and contains the best of modern religious art.  We continue on to Warwick to tour Warwick Castle, the finest medieval castle in England.  We return to Stratford-upon-Avon in time for some browsing in the little town.  Dinner and overnight Startford-upon-Avon. BD

DAY 4: Thursday, April 20, 2017 - This morning we tour Shakespeare’s town including his birthplace and the thatched cottage of his wife, Anne Hathaway.  Once a prosperous market town, its characteristic half-timbered houses have been well preserved and mingle beautifully with the elegant Georgian storefronts with their 18th century porticoes and arched doorways.  We continue on to the lovely university town of Oxford.  We visit Christ Church College which contains the 800 year old chapel in one corner that is one of the smallest cathedrals in England.  We enjoy a walking tour through the many old college buildings which reflect every period of architecture from medieval to the present.  Our journey continues to the wonderful Georgian City of Bath for dinner and overnight. BD

DAY 5: Friday, April 21, 2017 - Today we tour Bath, thought by many to be the most beautiful city in England.  The town has a glowing elegance with its many squares, terraces and crescents, and with the beautiful architecture erected using the honey-colored local stone.  The town came into being because of the purported medicinal properties of the natural hot springs.  The past Roman occupation of the area is widely seen in the remains of the Pump Room.  We see Bath Abbey and enjoy a traditional English tea at Sally Lunn’s before having some free time to shop and browse in this lovely city.  Overnight Bath. B

DAY 6: Saturday, April 22, 2017 - We say “goodbye” to Bath and travel to Wells, the smallest cathedral city in Britain.  We visit Wells Cathedral which offers one of England’s most powerful medieval images.  We visit the Bishop’s Palace, the residence of the Bishop of Bath and Wells.  We continue on to Exeter where we will be free to explore the town, visit sites on our own, shop or rest.  Dinner and overnight Exeter. BD

DAY 7: Sunday, April 23, 2017 - We travel to Exmouth to worship at St. John in the Wilderness, the sister church of St. John in the Wilderness in Flat Rock, NC.  We will have some time to speak to the parishioners and explore before we depart for the lovely town of Salisbury for dinner and overnight. BD

DAY 8: Monday, April 24, 2017 - After breakfast we drive the short distance to Stonehenge to visit the ancient circle of stones, begun about 2800 BC, and which still puzzles historians today.  Later we return to Salisbury, not only famous for its cathedral, but also an enjoyable quaint little market town.  We tour the majestic cathedral whose spire is the tallest of all in England.  We see an original copy of the Magna Carta, the cathedral close and enjoy Evensong.  Dinner and overnight Salisbury. BD

DAY 9: Tuesday, April 25, 2017 - We depart Salisbury stopping in Winchester for a tour of Winchester Cathedral.  The cathedral is the longest medieval church in England and it has a very rich and impressive interior.  This great cathedral, built in the Norman style, was begun in 1079 and has been altered numerous times using different types of architecture.  During our visit we will see the 12th century Winchester Bible and the charter presented to the cathedral by Henry VIII.  We continue to Canterbury for dinner and overnight BD

DAY 10: Wednesday, April 26, 2017 - Morning worship and tour of Canterbury Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of Canterbury.  The cathedral, noted for its medieval architecture, was begun only four years after the landing of the Normans, demolished and begun again in 1096.  Thomas á Becket was martyred here in 1170.  We enjoy a walking tour of the city of Canterbury in the afternoon.  Time permitting; we will attend Evensong at the cathedral.  Overnight Canterbury. B

DAY 11: Thursday, April 27, 2017 - We travel to the famous White Cliffs of Dover, Britain’s historic gateway to Europe.  We explore this city which still shows the scars of the bombardments of World War II.  On a clear day, the shores of France can be seen in the distance.  We tour Dover Castle and continue to Ayelsford Priory where we will visit with the monks and have lunch.  In the afternoon, we visit Leeds Castle, thought by many to be the most beautiful in the world.  We return to Canterbury for dinner and overnight. BLD

DAY 12: Friday, April 28, 2017 - This morning we drive to London, England’s largest city.  We enjoy a panoramic tour of London by motorcoach.  We see St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and more.  We enjoy a guided tour of St. Paul’s Cathedral before dinner and overnight in London. BD

DAY 13: Saturday, April 29, 2017 - Our day starts with a cruise down the Thames River to the Tower of London which we will tour.  We see St. John’s Chapel, the oldest example of Norman church architecture to survive in London.  We see the famous Beefeaters, the Crown Jewels, the spot where many citizens lost their heads, Traitors Gate and more.  Our coach will meet us outside the Tower and take us to Westminster Abbey, England’s chief memorial to its famous dead and where the royals are crowned.  We see Poet’s Corner which overflows with graves and memorials of writers from Chaucer onwards.  Included in the tombs of the many royals entombed here are Henry III, George II and Henry VII.  There will be free time this afternoon and evening.  Overnight London.
