DAY 1, Monday, June 20, 2011 - Depart Washington’s Dulles Airport on Air France for our flight to Paris where we connect to our flight to Rome. M

DAY 2: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 - We meet our tour manager and driver at the airport in Rome and visit Ostia Antica where Paul landed during his first visit to Italy.  There will be a brief orientation tour as we continue to travel into Rome. Overnight Rome. M

DAY 3: Wednesday, June 22, 2011 - After breakfast, we tour the Vatican State, an entire European state comprising 109 acres, ruled by the Pope and having its own postage stamps, coinage, anthem and flag.  Within the boundaries of the Vatican stands St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter was buried after he had been martyred in Nero’s Circus.  The first Chapel on the right as you enter St. Peter’s contains the Pieta’, the moving and powerful masterpiece carved by Michelangelo.  We visit the Sistine Chapel and marvel at the beauty created by Michelangelo on its ceiling.  This afternoon (pending confirmation) we visit the Scavi, excavations beneath St. Peter's Basilica, to see the tomb of Saint Peter.  We continue on to the Pantheon, a magnificent ancient temple dating from 125 AD, it is the most complete ancient building in Rome and was studied by Michelangelo before starting his work on the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 4: Thursday, June 23, 2011 - Today we enjoy a sightseeing tour which will introduce us to the splendor of Imperial Rome.  We start at the Colosseum and see the Forum, the Palatine and the Capitoline Hills.  We continue on to the Arch of Constantine, the Circus Maximus and the Castle San’ Angelo.  This afternoon we enjoy a walking tour of the main Piazzas including stops at the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 5: Friday, June 24, 2011 - Today we visit churches of Rome, including the Basilica of St. John Lateran, first among the four major Basilicas of Rome and the cathedral of the Bishop of Rome; Basilica di San Clemente, an early Christian basilica dedicated to Pope St. Clement; Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, according to a 13th century legend, the first church was built here by Pope Liberius (352-66) on the site of an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Legend has it that the Virgin appeared to Pope Liberius and the patrician Giovanni Patrizio on August 4, 352 (or 358), instructing them to build a church on the Esquiline Hill and that night, the floor plan was outlined by a miraculous snowfall.  We continue on to Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli, home of Michelangelo's magnificent statue of Moses.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 6: Saturday, June 25, 2011 - This morning we visit the Catacombs where we will have a private Eucharist (you must have your own priest and pending confirmation).  We return to Rome and visit the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, founded by Emperor Constantine in the 4th century and the burial place of Saint Paul the Apostle.  We also visit the Borghese Gallery, housed in the former Villa Borghese Pinciana, it includes twenty rooms across two floors.  We end the day with a "Pizza making" dinner in a local restaurant.  Overnight Rome.

DAY 7: Sunday, June 26, 2011 - After breakfast we depart for the Rome Airport where we board our Air France flight to Paris.  There we transfer to our flight back to Washington’s Dulles Airport. M
